LHinks: Islanders Hockey in July, Tavares, Cazikas, scrimmage play-by-play

[Updated with more links since the original posting...]

Today's Islanders prospect scrimmage at Iceworks was reportedly at capacity (official count: 427), which again makes you wonder if the club missed out by not opening the rest of mini-camp to the public. It certainly didn't hurt things in St. Louis, where 2,000 fans filled the practice rink for the scrimmage.

A lot of Tavares/camp coverage captured yesterday. Because you can't get enough, here's some more...

Tavares mania is far from over -- here's Jim Baumbach's profile on life in the spotlight, and here's the playful Q&A -- but Islanders camp coverage also branched out into other topics:

As expected, Newsday ran a more detailed feature on Casey Cazikas, who will have to relive his tale many times as his hockey career advances.

The Sunday Public Scrimmage: Logan with lines; Update: Tavares/Bailey and Gordon's impressions of several prospects; Tom Liodice with play-by-play and more via Twitter; Hockey Night on Long Island will do their BlogTalkRadio show today at 3 p.m. EDT. Update: Tom with video of the media scrums.

Day 2 (Saturday): Katie Strang with blog updates on Joel Rechlicz as mentor, HUGE Mikko Koskinen, and Strang's print profile of Josh Bailey as veteran; The NY Post's Dan Martin on, well, Tavares; Chris Botta with late-bloomer Matt Martin's contract situation, plus Bailey, Koskinen, Rhett Rakhshani; 7th Woman with assorted observations; Tom at Tiger Track, too. The official site on ex-Devil and Smithtown native Tony Romano.

7th Woman on Tavares's handling of the spotlight, Cazikas and getting a word in edgewise. Also: Q&A with Joel Rechlicz at her HockeyBuzz spot.

Not Camp-Related, But: Drive for Five lodges his argument for Alex Tanguay.
