Around SBN: Jim Irsay: We Can Make It Work With Peyton Manning

According to Dey, more than $79,000 in ticket plans (not including renewals) were sold in the first hour after the pick, along with $15,000 worth of Tavares merchandise.

So we are talking around 110 Tavares jerseys alone in the first hour? And those off the Island will still not get it. That is fantastic to see. I am waiting until I see his name on the contract. Sucks I’ll have to go thru NHL.com. I STILL don’t trust Garth, lol.

Great coverage, btw, if I hadn’t said so already.

This is why it was Garth’s smartest move. Even if Tavares is a bust, he can’t be held responsible for it because of the fan pressure. If he had drafted Duchene or Hedman and they were busts and Tavares ended up being Golden then he never would have heard the end of it.

John Tavares has to be the happiest kid on the planet today.

He’s gotta be absolutely thrilled about the reception he got at the Colliseum That place is gonna be PACKED to the gills this season. Looks like Long Island is finally buying into this rebuild and it looks like we have something special brewing here.

The fans and everyone connected knows it.

WebBard, Snow has specifically said how they made this choice regardless of the fan pressure to do so… so he is pretty much erasing the “easy out” that he would have had the way you said it. I respect that, to tell you the truth- because like you said he could easily have been like “Well you got what you wanted.” But its a moot point, because John is gonna be flippin great!

Rock on with the good coverage, Dominik :)

Lets go Islanders...

It's a win-win

Great player, great business move. Seems to me the franchise is overdue for the stars to align in both departments that way.

I’m really psyched to think that the fans have something to pack the house for. I mean, if you have to do a rebuild, it’s nice to have a gate attraction that gives people a visible example of what you’re building toward. Streit, Okposo, Bailey, Tavares … there are reasons to dream there.

Thanks everybody — it’s been a blast. FGS: You might try icejerseys.com or rivercitysports or even eBay, where a couple of online stores can give you your fix for less than the official league site. Confession: I haven’t customized a jersey since Pierre Turgeon (though I have blanks from every non-fisherman era since).

You know, funny enough, the last Isles Jersey I had with a name on it was a Turgeon Jersey I got two weeks before he was traded. Dam You Maloney!

THAT is rough. Yikes.
I just wish mine still fit.

Since I'm a bit older..

I still have a Nystrom one from 1976 that he signed . Doesn’t fit but I have it framed and hanging on a wall anyway. And I do own a Fishsticks one I bought a a garage sale out here. Yes, I admit it! What are the chances of that happening? Bought my kid a replica Wave jersey off ebay. I do not have the current one because it is butt ugly, second only to Fishsticks version.

I wonder what that garage sale jersey’s back story is.

I should clarify: I don’t own the current one (agree, it doesn’t work for me … maybe with out the shoulder pin stripes). But I do have the 3rd/retro jersey, so since I had to swallow the RBK (vowels not included) EDGE design to get it, I counted it.

Exactly! That shoulder piping makes it look like a Pee-Wee team’s uniforms. Glad to see someone with the same issue with them as me,lol.

Love the retro look. As far as Fishsticks, the guy I got it from wasn’t even a hockey fan, as I bargained him down to 5 dollars and it had a fight strap! Must of bought it from those “clothes by the pound” places.
