It's not just Trading Day -- it's Contract Extension Day. We'll make this the thread for contract extensions announced today and how they might reflect on the Island...
Item: The Sabres reach agreement with oft-injured Tim Connolly for two more years at $4.5 million. Sabres fans digest at Die by the Blade.
Islanders-centric reaction: Interesting. Would you rather have 60 games of Connolly at $4.5M or every day of Mike Comrie at $4 million? And does this raise or lower Doug Weight's asking price ($1.75 this year but $4.3 with bonuses)?
Weight's been injured quite a bit himself this season and is 11 years older than Connolly. But after playing for performance bonuses and excelling (when healthy), you can expect him to think even more highly of his worth come negotiation time.
Item: The Senators have extended defenseman Filip Kuba for three years at $3.7 million. Sens fans react at Silver Seven.
Islanders-centric reaction: Nice deal, but man, Mark Streit's five years at $4.1 million per looks better and better each day. Certainly the addition of cost-controlled former Islander (:sniff:) Chris Campoli makes this extension easier, though.
