The U.S. Tennis Association insists it's exploring a roof only to end rain delays at the 23,733-seat Arthur Ashe Stadium - but the Queens Chamber of Commerce views it as a shot to bring a second pro hockey club to the city.

Man, when a team's future and home is up for grabs, you hear some wacky ideas.

This idea

Popped up a few months ago, too. I know they’ll talk about reconfiguring it, but that stadium has about 4,000 good seats. The rest are a mile high in the sky. I may or may not have seen Andre Agassi play there many times.

Never fancied you a tennis fan Ken.

Sorry, the day the team moves to Queens is the day that I don’t renew my season tickets. The city, although attached to Long Island – is not LONG ISLAND.

It would be like the Mets playing in Suffolk – would they still technically be the Metropolitan’s?

Last argument against it, The Mellon arena (Pittsburgh’s current den) – that has a retractable roof (it is also an amphitheater) has notoriously been known for bad ice because of the retractable roof there.

Mike, I played and coached tennis for a long time. I was never willing to give up baseball, soccer, and basketball, though, so that pretty much killed my tennis career! Anyway, going to the US Open was lot of fun for a long time, but it lost something as the tennis center became more and more corporate and the seats in the new stadium were ridiculously high off the court.

I love tennis. Haven’t played much since I finally conquered my older brother, though, lol. My sports hierarchy: Hockey > soccer > tennis > knitting, in my book.

Love the line about “may or may not have seen” Agassi. I’ve never been to the Open, but from the many looks on TV, it is really hard to imagine that working — and it’s really, really hard to imagine repurposing a building like that for hockey. Hockey and ice rinks do not lend themselves to a retrofit.

My hierarchy: Ice Hockey > Roller Hockey > Bowling > Billiards > Darts

I have played baseball, softball, soccer, and golf – but hockey is number one and two for me.

Baseball > Soccer > Tennis > Basketball

But if we we’re talking about watching, Hockey goes right to the top of the list!

That’s pretty cool Ken, learn something new about your friends every day!

The only tennis I have ever played was during high school, I have a nice serve – but I never really got into it.

So okay, this seems like a crazy idea from the start — and it comes from the Queens Chamber (I just wanted to use that term) and not from USTA. So is the Queens Chamber just beating the drums to keep up the noise that, “Hey, we’re interested and we’ll do crazy things to make it happen.” ?

Up and Down

Seems that neither team seems to have a complete effort tonight, it could end either way. Part of me snickered and smiled when the Habs tied it up…..

OMG

Tambellini just got robbed by Price on a ridiculously placed and hard shot. He’s found his mojo as of late (tamby).

Yeah he has! I think I’ve written him and then changed my mind three times since the start of last year.
