The walk-on story of Matt Gilroy, the BU senior Islanders fans hope Garth Snow makes a serious run at. Problem is, he turned down 23 offers last year.

I not only went to High School with Matt, we actually took the same bus. I played basketball with his older brother Frank a lot. I knew he was playing hockey at BU now, but I didn’t know the whole story behind it, or that he was a multiple All-American. Very cool. I hope he ends up with the Isles.

I wonder if the guy I know from the Bellmore-Merrick hockey team knows him. Being a few years older, I likely didn’t play him in HS, but the kid who knew me (because he lives next to my cousin) was a year or two younger.
My only claim to fame is that I played against Scuderi and Nystrom in HS.

Heh, that beats my claims: The only NHLers’ sons I played against in high school never made it all the way.
