Lighthouse Hockey preview: Hurricanes Incoming
Sounds like the same lineup, but no word on Bergenheim, and Trent Hunter still doesn't sound ready. Here is a ball of game thread to cure the common cold.

Lineup
CJ Papa reports on the pregame that Richard Park is out four weeks with broken ribs suffered last night. Hunter back in to take his place.

Park’s replacement on the 2nd PP unit? Brendan Witt.

Happy to see Hunter back, at least. Man, everybody is taking their turn with real injuries this year.

Ahhhhhhhh!!!
You’re kidding. Thanks for the updates.
Just another injury blow. This is incredible.

End of 1st: 3-1 Carolina
Yikes. I arrived home for the last few minutes of the 1st. Sounds like I have not missed much at all.

For anyone just visiting
The Islanders Outsider who gave you updates is this Islanders Outsider, who did a bang-up job giving the Islanders’ position on the trade deadline package at Illegal Curve. He’s also representing the Isles at HockeyBuzz during B.D. Gallof’s hiatus.
It’s unclear whether he’s stayed at a Holiday Inn Express.
Lighthouse Hockey: SBN's New York Islanders blog with hip issues.
Why, thank you
I believe my last stay at a Holiday Inn predated the Express era.

Ha, you know mine, too, now that I think about it. Wouldn’t know which Holiday Inn (or is it Marriott?) is which, actually.

It got very sloppy. Not exactly a cohesive effort by the D. And Joey did his Yann impression on the 2nd goal.

Oy
That’s no good. I get the feeling MacDonald kind of leans forward/falls forward too much some times. Almost like rather than going down, he sort of plunges forward. I’m not sure what I’m talking about here, but sometimes I feel like his movements are off when there’s traffic in front.

The Islanders goal
Man, of course it was Streit. That guy, I swear … he’s just been incredible.
Lighthouse Hockey: SBN's New York Islanders blog with hip issues.
Streit, to himself, just before socring: “Okay, I guess I might as well put this one home from the blue line.”

“Ho hum, time to carry the team again.”
If we add another set of hands for the powerplay next year, it could get really dangerous.

Witt on the PP, crashing the net
Man, you weren’t kidding!
Great shorthanded save there by Joey.
Lighthouse Hockey: SBN's New York Islanders blog with hip issues.
Nope!
I was wondering if I should have put a “No joke” tag on that.

I forgot about that aspect of a D-men like Witt moving up: the chance to deliver many more open hits.
Lighthouse Hockey: SBN's New York Islanders blog with hip issues.
And that position now comes with 50% fewer cross-checks!
by Islanders Outsider on Feb 19, 2009 8:16 PM EST up reply actions
That’s right! They can’t even properly pay him back for years of front-of-the-net whacks.
Lighthouse Hockey: SBN's New York Islanders blog with hip issues.
Mmmm, Tambellini watching Staal sneak by him there. Come on, buddy, you know your leash is short.
Lighthouse Hockey: SBN's New York Islanders blog with hip issues.
Joey!!
Serious save on Cullen. Wow, what a stretch! My groin hurt just watching.
Lighthouse Hockey: SBN's New York Islanders blog with hip issues.
He’s getting a workout now. I may go quiet here for a while.

It is allowed. Thanks for stopping by!
This game … I may go quiet, too. Gordon doesn’t look thrilled.
Lighthouse Hockey: SBN's New York Islanders blog with hip issues.
Ugh. 4-1 Canes
That was a brilliant shot way up over MacDonald’s stick-side shoulder.
Breakdown, and another shot for Staal.
Lighthouse Hockey: SBN's New York Islanders blog with hip issues.
Oh, another Joey stretch
Huge 2-on-1 save to keep this from getting ugly.
Lighthouse Hockey: SBN's New York Islanders blog with hip issues.
Well, so. END of 2nd: Canes up 5-1
I don’t think I even noted the last goal. This one’s gotten away from them, and MacDonald has made several gracilius-ripping saves to keep it from getting even worse.
WTH, men? Gave it the old college try last night?
Lighthouse Hockey: SBN's New York Islanders blog with hip issues.
This calls for beer. Just got a Leinenkugel bock I’ve never tried before.

Sim with the breakaway, and ... whiffs
Totally lost the handle on his deke move. I’m sure the pressure of rust and being waived and not playing is on him, but damn … that only adds to his goat status.
Lighthouse Hockey: SBN's New York Islanders blog with hip issues.
Yes, Conboy, running into the goalie is verboten
You sit in the box. You sit in the box and feel shame.
Lighthouse Hockey: SBN's New York Islanders blog with hip issues.
Con-boy … chka-boom, chka-boom … Con-boy
Lighthouse Hockey: SBN's New York Islanders blog with hip issues.
Checked in on the Canes Country game thread. They are enjoying themselves as expected. Disturbed by the club’s inconsistency, though.
Lighthouse Hockey: SBN's New York Islanders blog with hip issues.
Fight: Jackman v. Conboy
Jackman pounding away. Do NOT run our goalie with a 5-1 lead! After he’s already ripped his groin on mad saves to keep this at “only” 5-1!
Lighthouse Hockey: SBN's New York Islanders blog with hip issues.
Jackman gets the instigator
Oh, I guess, if you insist.
That was really damn funny. Jackman didn’t let him get from the box to the bench. Intercepted him and started pounding. They may have an AHL or college history.
Lighthouse Hockey: SBN's New York Islanders blog with hip issues.
Yeah, I’m gonna vote for eliminating the instigator.
Lighthouse Hockey: SBN's New York Islanders blog with hip issues.
Bloody onslaught ensues: 6-1
Dinky goal deflects off Martinek and in.
Just hate to see blowouts like this at home. Kind of big to give fans a decent time.
Lighthouse Hockey: SBN's New York Islanders blog with hip issues.
Yeah, I may go quiet here for a while. Seen enough of these games.

Fight(-ish): Comrie v. LaRose
Comrie sort of bullrushes him into the boards … a few noogies by Comrie.
Lighthouse Hockey: SBN's New York Islanders blog with hip issues.
6-2
I have missed a goal, and I don’t care.
Long day.
Lighthouse Hockey: SBN's New York Islanders blog with hip issues.
Christ, it was Sim’s!
{speechless}

Final: 6-2 Carolina
Very bad things.
