Hot head Steve Downie, previously day-to-day, is in the lineup for the Bolts.

Roloson vs. Smith. Hedman vs. Tavares (?). A recently good Lightning PK versus a recently bad Islanders PP.

You bring the thunder, I'll bring the lightning -- wait, no, that's not right ... How 'bout bring in da noise, bring in da funk?

Stamkos breakaway

About lost my lunch. MacDonald did a nice job harrasing him without taking a penalty. Stamkos deked Roloson wide but hit the post.

Oh my. Roloson folly - and savior

Bad bounce/handle off the boards leaves the net empty. Roloson stops the 1st one miraculously and does toe-save acrobatics to maybe keep the second one out. Lightning players celebrate while the puck is sitting there, still, Roloson trying not to hit it in; Bruno pulls it off the splinter of the line it apparently clung to.

Under review, of course. But the call on the ice was no goal.

Honestly, it wasn’t conclusive enough to overrule, but a puck simply cannot be any closer to absolutely over the line than that one. Millimeters.

Mmph, Tavares

2-on-1 with Moulson, and JT got caught from behind when he tried to pull it across the slot for a better shot angle.

Relief: Islanders PP goal

Wow. Great connection, with Hillen going down to the corner, feeding Bailey behind the net, who hit Hunter sneaking through at the doorstep for the goal.

Hunter: 1st goal in 12 games
Isles PP: 1st goal in 20 chances
Isles home game: 1st lead in what feels like eternity.

End of 1st: 1-0 Isles

Two extremely close/lucky calls where the Bolts could have scored, and the Isles converted on a PP chance (!). Other than that, pretty clean 5-on-5 play though.

Lightning begin the 2nd with about 1:24 of PP.

OK, so Rolo's.....

maybe got his groove/mojo back tonight (?)

by ogam5 on Dec 21, 2009 7:55 PM EST reply actions

Hope so

That was some Jedi magic he pulled there…

Woo

Park and Comeau PK pressure draws a penalty. Nice.

Yeah

Two functional powerplays in a row would be too much to ask.

Hunter

Shooting hard and high from a low angle, almost slipping it by Smith, stinging him. Fan approves this method.

Stamkos score from St. Louis

That was sick.

UH-oh......

…..don’t like the way TB seems to be getting back into this game!

Stamkos checks Okposo from behind

Hello? Penalty?

by Dominik on Dec 21, 2009 8:17 PM EST reply actions

2-1!

Wow! FANTASTIC shift by Nielsen/Okposo/Bailey/Streit/MacDonald … and then who ends up scoring on a snipe? Nate Thompson. LOL.

Lighthouse Hockey: Eyes on Tavares, mug full of Moulson.

by Dominik on Dec 21, 2009 8:30 PM EST reply actions

That was odd, all the pressure. They weren’t making cutesy plays, but they were nifty little short passes that the young guys don’t always have the confidence to make. Lot of great vision there by Bailey/Frans/KO. And Bailey shook off a Downey headhunt.

Nate.....

…..surprises EVERYONE!

Has JT.....

been allowed to factor so far?

Not much until now

…his first official slump?

Lighthouse Hockey: Eyes on Tavares, mug full of Moulson.

by Dominik on Dec 21, 2009 8:34 PM EST up reply actions

Ouch

And now a PP-negating penalty. Though that was a bit of a bush-league call. Stick blade on stick blade? Come on.

Lighthouse Hockey: Eyes on Tavares, mug full of Moulson.

by Dominik on Dec 21, 2009 8:35 PM EST up reply actions

And now Stamkos does the SAME THING and avoids a penalty for the second time. I guess you need a year before you get “respect” from the stripes.

Lighthouse Hockey: Eyes on Tavares, mug full of Moulson.

by Dominik on Dec 21, 2009 8:36 PM EST up reply actions

…..winning a lot of faceoffs, anyhow!

by ogam5 on Dec 21, 2009 8:34 PM EST reply actions

2-2, Lecavalier

Can’t help thinking that pressure wouldn’t have happened if they hadn’t made the BS call on JT and then ignored the same by Stamkos.

End of 2nd: 2-2

Late TB goal hurts. I have the “refs blew it” bias/rage in me.

Very, VERY long day.....

 - mechanic working on my mother’s car was completely relieved of his entire business Friday night, to the tune of $100K+:( What were the odds?

Oy, Hillen

Well, if you’re gonna clear it over the glass, I guess might as well get your money’s worth.

The thing is.....

…..they’re playing as well as they have all season; I really, REALLY hate the puck-over-glass ruling – it’s absolutely idiotic.

by ogam5 on Dec 21, 2009 9:10 PM EST reply actions

I don’t mind the spirit of it: Anything that requires players to make better plays rather than have an escape route (like icing) is good by me. But I think the ice conditions make it unfair. So many times the puck is wobbling or rolls up on them.

Move thy feet, Schremp

He’s waiting too long for something to develop, and the D isn’t taking his bait.

Egad, 4-2

So, special teams update: PP … we got one! PK … two in the hole.

Yeeeeeeeesh.....

…..BOTH MM and Trent have 6 shots each; once again, the ludicrous calls – and non-calls – deflated this team, but even so, they don’t give up…..Smith has found a way to hermetically seal the net one more time……

by ogam5 on Dec 21, 2009 9:25 PM EST reply actions

And the PK, ack. Ack.

I almost successfully missed that entire game. From the looks of it so did the fans and the team. I was fortunate enough to hear the boos reign down with the last attempt at a powerplay.

Sooner or later someone is going to have to tell the truth about the Lighthouse Project and when they do I will probably be really old if not dead.
