Islanders-Panthers [game thread]
Florida Panthers at New York Islanders, Dec 14, 2009 7:00 PM EST
So it's Dwayne Roloson vs. Tomas Vokoun. Andy Sutton and Jack Hillen in, Andrew MacDonald and Jeff Tambellini out. Dominic Moore back in for the Cats, Greg Campbell still out -- which means if something suspension-worthy happens, maybe the Colin Circus gets to deal with it, yay!
Scott Gordon Quote of the Day: "He's done a great job. It's not easy with the amount of ice time he's had up to this point to go out there and function within a team's system. He wants it bad, and he's working at it." If you guessed that was about Rob Schremp, you win 1 million Internet dollars.
This is our official in-game thread: the throw-it-at-the-wall, instant-reaction, share-fruitcake-recipe-and-metal-bands thread.
Prediction: Josh Bailey gets a shot on goal clangs one off the post. Blake Comeau has a good game with room for improvement.

Heh, Bailey's first shot attempt
Wide.

Witt
Ive counted with at 3 giveaways in his first shift…pretty much more of the same as ive come to know and love
Wonder how many will be tallied on the official home ice score sheet. Those are notoriously unreliable.
Lighthouse Hockey: Side effects may include Weight gain and frequent game loss.
Ha, and now it must be noted he just prevented a goal by clearing the rebound in front of an empty net. His job, but still, I’ll credit when I see it.
Lighthouse Hockey: Side effects may include Weight gain and frequent game loss.
has the puck with open ice and an open freddy meyer and dumps it round his net tooooo…. the other team
Rough shift
Witt, Meyer, Park not getting the puck out. Good Cats pressure.
Lighthouse Hockey: Side effects may include Weight gain and frequent game loss.
Like when he pinches there and misses? Yep.
Lighthouse Hockey: Side effects may include Weight gain and frequent game loss.
Woo, Rolli
Big save on Dvorak. I bet Roloson helps Gordon sleep better at night.
Lighthouse Hockey: Side effects may include Weight gain and frequent game loss.
One of the few to actually put his shot ON GOAL so far.
Lighthouse Hockey: Side effects may include Weight gain and frequent game loss.
Ohh yeah. Just keeps on groovin’.
Lighthouse Hockey: Side effects may include Weight gain and frequent game loss.
Party Foul
Jaffe mentioning how screwed the Isles would be if Tavares or Moulson got hurt.
We know this, but don’t need that kinda talk on the broadcast.
Lighthouse Hockey: Side effects may include Weight gain and frequent game loss.
no no
he was relating it to the rangers… saying if Gaborik was out they would be done… 2nd best goal scorer has 6
Oh good. Thanks. Much better. In that case, talk it up, Billy!

Unreal. That was peewee.

gervais!
how long do we all have to post about gervais before sg and gs realize he isnt an nhl player?

Ha, yes, the Blueline Complaint Department has a long line.
Lighthouse Hockey: Side effects may include Weight gain and frequent game loss.
witt
at least witt used to be able to play and is at least a veteran leader on the ice, Gervais brings nothing and looks lost

End of 1st: 1-0
Not horrid. Fairly even. Need better shots. Florida’s disrupting the Isles forecheck. Gotta make up for Bruno’s mistake and then some.
Lighthouse Hockey: Side effects may include Weight gain and frequent game loss.
No Speed
Evident by stretch passes and low percentage shots.
Ward doesn’t look so bad, considering Witt and Gervais are both HORRID tonight. I never thought I would say this, but I missed Sutton.

- going on for the 2nd even tho i need it dry cleaned, maybe that means he gets a dirty goal
why isn't #16 hanging in the rafters?
no idea why it does that no matter what # you use.

Jesse
BIG defensive play to takeaway the shot at an empty net. Maybe these guys do love Roloson more.
Lighthouse Hockey: Side effects may include Weight gain and frequent game loss.
Wow, why didn't that guy hit Sutton?
He stopped behind the net like he was afraid of him. I mean, I’d shy from hitting him too — but on the other hand he’s quite breakable. You might get away with it.
Lighthouse Hockey: Side effects may include Weight gain and frequent game loss.
Goal by Hillen’s good foot, assist by Stripes.

LOL. Ouch.
Dammit, now you’re good at uncontested breakaways. Stop that!

Yeah, baby! JESSE
Sweet freakin’ work by Hunter! THAT’S how you answer.
Lighthouse Hockey: Side effects may include Weight gain and frequent game loss.
nice that jj didnt vacate after the first attempt… which is key
why isn't #16 hanging in the rafters?
Yes
Not sure about the assist to Schremp. Seems like Hunter had it for an hour before feeding 58.
Lighthouse Hockey: Side effects may include Weight gain and frequent game loss.
Shremp points in 3 straight
Does it make Tambellini more expendable?

That does, or Tamby’s one goal in eternity.
It will be fun if Schremp stays in the lineup for a while. How long do you run Bailey at wing?
Lighthouse Hockey: Side effects may include Weight gain and frequent game loss.
Five games, no more – it’ll do damage. Right now it’s a good learning experience.

I see the temptation: Try to get JT/Mo magic to wear off on someone lesser. Sadly, it never does and KO doesn’t quite wear off on the others, either.

this feels like the “oh. we have a home and home vs the rangers?” next kinda game

Ok I just turned it on. What did I miss other than Witt looking like a bumper pool table?
The Whole Foods grocery store (headquarters in Austin, TX) near me has announced that they have an outdoor rink on top of their building. I went to see it and got a good laugh...but it is an outdoor patch of ice on top of a building in Austin, TX. I guess I should be impressed.
Two very ugly turnovers by Bruno (EV) and Streit (PP) that created uncontested breakaway goals for Florida.
But Jesse got a goal from standing in front of the net, as Hunter fed him.
Lighthouse Hockey: Side effects may include Weight gain and frequent game loss.
should be 1 nothing
1st goal gervais,2nd stupid ref got in the wy of suttons clear,3rd streit with brainfreeze(maybe its catchy and he got it from bruno)

from what I have seen so far...
the Cats are just flat out outworking the Isles at both ends of the ice. My guess is Coach Gordon is ripping them a new one about now.
For only the second time this season
Scott Gordon has yanked a netminder

Oh good god
Dear Isles: Panthers are fast.
Lighthouse Hockey: Side effects may include Weight gain and frequent game loss.
referencing my fanshot about where this team is headed
Saturday night they did what playoff teams do…find a way to win a game they should have lost. Tonight they did what teams that get the #1 overall do, turn in a total stinker. They never can seem to consistently play at a high level the way they would have to if they were to make a playoff run. Taylor Hall will look good in the blue and orange.
painful
somebody has to get into a fight!but who?

…when they start flashing the banners and doing nostalgia talk.
Lighthouse Hockey: Side effects may include Weight gain and frequent game loss.
Put it THIS way.....
If it’s a case of, ‘one step forward, two steps back’, we’re in the Taylor Hall sweepstakes; if we can improve to ‘two steps forward, one step back’, we have a shot at the playoffs…..tonight is QUITE ugly, and I’m mystified as to why it’s happening…..

actually...
to have a shot at the playoffs, they would have to win at a .600+ pace for the rest of the season. I do not see this team doing that this year.
So glad I went to eat…I missed what 3 goals. If I go to the bathroom I am guessing FLA can get another 3 goals.
Once again NHL Gamecenter has given me the away broadcasters. I am not liking the Gamecenter package. approximately 12 games of which 1 was the Isles announcers…including the games in NVMC like tonight.

That’s awful. There’s no rhyme or reason to my Center Ice selection, but I get the Isles feed option at least 75% of the time, probably more.
Lighthouse Hockey: Side effects may include Weight gain and frequent game loss.
I used to have Center Ice but switched to AT&T Uverse and they do not carry it. Great reception but no center ice.

I’m pretty sure Gordon doesn’t want them to sit 2 feet in front of the net on the powerplay waiting for the puck to sit down before they take a shot.

There was a soccer game that ended 9-2 and the players got together to pay back the fans for that horrible display of sleepwalking. Perhaps the Isles should consider that policy.

for all the talk earlier about how much losing Gaborik would hurt the booshirts
losing Henrik would be far worse. He is the only reason they are remotely competitive. Atlanta had a long 5-3 at the end of the game and Henrik kept the puck out by force of will…and got them a point. To be fair, he screwed the pooch in the shootout.
