Radek Martinek is out for the year with a torn ACL ... Doug Weight is out for a week with an upper body injury.

>>Just posting this for passers-by. Kudos to everyone putting it in comments to the day's posts. This feels more like normal now, huh?

Haha, no worries steeler. And don’t make me tell you the difference between Czechs and Slovaks! (My dad’s Czech, so naturally my buddies call me Slovak to rib me. Euro-ethnic tensions … always a good time.)

I expected Martinek injuries the way I expect Weight ones at this point, but ACL — now that’s hitting the jackpot.

Sutton

Do we move him now or wait till he gets hurt I think a team like Chi would love him for say a guy like Barker

Chicago would like Sutton but...

Sopel is the one they want to get rid of on D, not Barker. No way do I want Sopel back here…especially not with his salary. Chicago has two late second rounders. One of them would do for Sutton, but probably not until closer to the deadline.

If Chiacgo were to get Roly and Andy in trade from us...

they could try to trade Sopel—and if they didn’t find any suckers—put him through waivers and release him. That would take care of any immediate cap problem and then they could make a decision about Huet after the season was over.

Intresting Fact

The draft pick used to draft Martinek was part of the deal that sent Tommy Salo to the Oilers for Mats Lindgren.

Why is it that seemingly every late round pick of Milbury’s has some huge fault.

and you have to ask yourself...

with a perfectly competent goalie like Tommy (although he has been made famous by the goalie beatdown video), why would you need to trade Roberto anyway. If I am remembering correctly, we had them at the same time. Can’t remember Mats offhand.

Milbury traded Roberto because he wanted No One to stand between DiPietro and being starter. Milbury shot a load in his pants when he saw that the top rated goalie in the draft was from Boston.

Milburyitis

Milburyitis: A sick obsession with your hometown to the point of damaging your current team.

Also, I couldn’t agree more.

…and on top of it, all his talk of DiPietro as a puckhandler was aggravating and counter-productive. You made these moves because the goalie can handle the puck?

yeah, Mike, maybe a long time ago you remember playing a position called defense

they are the guys who get paid to handle the puck for the goaltender who gets paid to stop pucks. So maybe if you hadn’t traded away guys like Chara, Redden, Brewer, and McCabe, you wouldn’t need to worry about whether your goalie could handle the puck…just whether he could stop it.

If only Cheevers coulda handled the puck, maybe he would’ve been somebody.
