Katie Strang reports that Brendan Witt -- who hadn't skated in a week -- sits this one out for Andrew MacDonald. No pressure, Andy Mac: Just a massive NHL opportunity on the line. Getting ahead of myself, but: How wild would it be if his play bumped his defensive partner Freddy Meyer from the lineup?

Strang also says Martin Biron's in net, and Cal Clutterbuck is looking forward to trash-talking his old junior linemate, one John Tavares. I'm pretty pumped for this. No one backs JT in a corner. (Okay, that: Hyperbole and poor '80s film reference. But we haven't seen how Tavares responds when someone angers him, and I have a hunch that it is like poking a bear.)

You mentioned him smiling constantly, and now I can’t notice anything else.

Like when I told my wife Deb always speaks out of the side of her mouth, she said “Why did you tell me that? Now that’s all I see.”

MacDonald

You know, the thought probably is, as long as he’s up from the AHL, they might as well give him a go in case of another injury to the D.

I was hoping for that. And makes sense; might as well bring him along for this 3-in-4 trip.

Either that or Witt has Swine Flu. He might be back with the team and not 100%. Didn’t they hide that Weight had it till after he came back?

One thing I miss about the late 90s Islanders. I probably mentioned it before, but I used to show up at the Colosseum with a half hour to go before the game and wait till someone offered free tickets. Then since it was always weekday games I would just go down to the lower bowl everytime.

Usually the second a team becomes decent the tickets start going up. Only situation I can think of working like that would be the Coyotes. They are doing good so far and no ones showing up.

Also, next time anyone says something about the Isles losing 6 million in a season, the Coyotes lost 6 Million LAST MONTH.

Gotta be kidding me...

The Islanders are actually doing the variable Pricing BS? And it doesn’t even make sense. I could see charging more for the Isles-Rangers games because all the dam Ranger fans show up. But charging more for Isles-Flyers? Are there really that many more people showing up for the Flyers then the Leafs? Thank god for Stub Hub. Most of the cheap tickets are in the 10-15 buck range.

I paid 5 bucks for nosebleed seats at Shea the last time I went to a Mets game. That was worth it. Especially since we got down to 1st base and got to chant Mookie for the last three innings of the game (he was the 1st base coach).

Wilpons going so cheap they turned of SAP (Spanish subtitles) for SNY.

Wild "sellout" streak

It sounds like the Wild are going to do what the Avs did: Milking their “streak” long after 1 to 2000 people have stopped showing up. Hockey Wilderness was calling them out.

Split the season with another couple. We were there Wednesday and it was pathetic. They really should just stop; it was mostly legit until opening night this year.

It stinks, because it pretty much eliminates the meaning of “sellout” and then the whole streak sounds suspect, when it’s not. Hopefully they don’t do it as long as the Avs.

Speaking of which: The Blues fans are rabid. St. Louis Game Times is an underground print program with a cult following (including myself), so the blog moved over to SBN with a legion of followers already in place. They’re witty and vulgar and all of the above, so if any of ‘em show up here tomorrow night (I’ll be at the game and not in this thread), just know that they’re probably cool and possibly leaving me “presents.”

The Americans’ first season, 1925–26, they finished fifth overall with a record of 12-22-4. However, they did prove a success at the box office; so much so that the following season Garden management landed a team of its own, the New York Rangers, despite promising Dwyer that the Amerks would be the sole hockey team in the Garden. The Amerks were forced to support the bid due to a clause in their lease with the Garden.

Basically after that the Americans lease at MSG kept getting worse and worse. They tried to move to Brooklyn, but there were no quality arenas around.

Owen Nolan is always dangerous even at 37.

He took the same shot trying to bank it off of Biron’s stick twice and Biron didn’t correct it till the first goal. And I’m sure Gordon is giving Streit and Gervais an earful.

But the real problem I think, especially the last few games, is that we continue giving up 4-5 PPs a night. We’re a good PK, but just the law of averages says that they are going to eventually give up a goal.

by WebBard on Nov 20, 2009 10:39 PM EST up reply actions   0 recs

Yep. Particularly tonight when our PP wasn’t converting.

MacDonald’s pivotal penalty seemed tacky to me, too. He was just skating to the top of Biron’s crease, and that guy went down like he was shot.
