Anders Lee

I think the reason he doesn’t get as much attention is that he is planning to go to college after this year with the Gamblers. Unless…Garth and Co are especially impressed and ask him to finish his education at Fordham or Yale while he plays at Bridgeport.

Is there any precedent for that? A player in the AHL “finishing his education” simultaneously? If he wants to go to college, I can’t see what your proposing sufficing, and I’m not sure how he’d be of AHL-caliber yet.

But yeah, Lee has an interesting set of circumstances around him that probably serve to dampen his relative hype. Personally, if a guy wants to see college through, I’m all for it. Let him have his time, follow his mission, and see what comes of him when he’s ready to move to the next step.

I sure hope so. I just don’t want to rush him when he’s already made some big decisions (hockey over football, college route, etc.).

Sure

we’ll see how he does with the Gamblers this year and with Notre Dame. He may be the only Islander ever to have been accepted at Harvard—and for academic merit. He has a 3.97 GPA!!!

Rhodes scholar?

Now that’s where Snow would have to step in: “Come on kid, Rhodes scholar, schmodes schmolar. There’s no future for you in that arena. Follow your puck destiny.”

not a problem

a Rhodes scholarship simply pays for tuition costs. It is given to the best minds who are also outstanding athletes. Bill Bradley was a Rhodes scholar as was former QB Pat Haden, a noted Kiwi rugby player David Kirk, and a FL Seminole DB Myron Rolle. Of course, Bill Clinton and a host of other luminaries were as well.

standards are:

—literary and scholastic attainments;
—energy to use one’s talents to the full, as exemplified by fondness for and success in sports;
—truth, courage, devotion to duty, sympathy for and protection of the weak, kindliness, unselfishness and fellowship;
—moral force of character and instincts to lead, and to take an interest in one’s fellow beings.

I know

I was being 100% sarcastic.

… though the opportunities (and travel) it provides might lead a promising young guy to think there are other wonders in this world besides spending 24/7 preparing to be an NHL player.

so maybe he gives the isles 15 years, wins a few Cups, a Conn Smyth, as well as the Calder…and then runs for Congress, the Senate, Governor of MN, and maybe even President.

and then as president, he uses that Truth, and Moral Force to fool around with interns and cigars and lie to the people about it…

why isn't #16 hanging in the rafters?

and negotiates a lasting peace in the Middle East.

While playing with the Isles

…he moonlights as Town of Hempstead supervisor.
