Minor Isles updates for a minor Monday
Still traveling, but here's a few updates catching the eye during this multi-day break between Game 1 and Game 2:
- They're looking for a little progress this year in Bridgeport... [Chris Elsberry/Conn. Post]
- ...where the Sound Tigers beat the baby Devils in game one -- and sounds like Mark Katic had a tough game [Mike Fornabaio/Conn. Post]
- Speaking of Islanders of the future, nice to hear Calvin de Haan is back in action. [Katie Strang/Isles Files]
- Meanwhile, perhaps the craziest part of the NHL's opening week: Carolina getting bludgeoned, and losing Erik Cole on top of it. [Canes Country]
Me? I'm in an airport, day-dreaming of a season of watching John Tavares and Kyle Okposo playing like that...wow.

Montreal, Matt Moulson, and what has happened to the Canucks?
Actually Montreal lost another defenseman as well. Ryan O’Byrne. Not sure how serious. Also, Glen Metropolit had an upper body injury. Maybe we won’t lead the NHL in lost games this year.
I was interested to hear JT say in the post-game that he and Matt Moulson are childhood friends. Maybe signing him was no accident at all. I like Matt’s determination. He said it was no surprise to him that he made the team. He had trained all summer with that objective in mind and wasn’t about to accept any other result!!!
Folks up here are disheartened by the Canucks’ start. Losing to Calgary was bad enough, but getting blanked by Colorado has left them wondering what is wrong with their team. The Isles have one more point after one game than they have after two. It will be interesting to see how this season turns out.
Few updates on Hamonic and deHaan
Hamonic has 8 pts in 7 games for Moose Jaw. That’s 2 goals and 6 assists
deHaan has 2 pts in 2 games for Oshawa. They are both assists
