Knock-knock.
"Who's there?"
Orange.
"Orange who?"
Orange you glad man discovered hockey?

(Sorry about that.) I'm supposed to be at a costume party -- at the time I prepared this post, it was a toss up between dressing as Cher or as Rodney Dangerfield's character from Caddyshack (I'm telling you, sometimes being the son of a Czech -- with access to his old wardrobe -- comes in handy).

So I won't be here for the whole game, and maybe for none of it. I suspect many of you might be in the same boat. But if you're here, have at it, and I'll try to catch up tomorrow. Extra credit if you tell me what I missed.

Two in a row

Let’s hope they keep the momentum going into tonight. I’ll be around here for the whole game, hopefully some other show up too.

I'll be here

Screw Halloween!!!!

I want my Islanders!!!

Besides, what can be scarier than watching our inept defense.

Nice. Looking forward to the game. Seems like we had a pretty good group here for the game last night.

Looking forward to see Biron in goal.

Present!

For a little while at least, for sure.

Gaustad and Kaleta out with “undisclosed illness.” Hope they kissed a few teammates before they saw them off.

Yessir. Man, he’s been around a while. Wonder what happened to Mikka Noronen? Seems like Buffalo had a logjam for a while in goal.

Hmm, good question about Mika. Haven’t heard that name for awhile. Looks like he’s playing in Europe now, and for the past few years.

Gotta be one of the toughest positions in sports to secure a job. Just 60 openings, half of which won’t give you many appearances, hard to get a chance to find your groove.

Dam, had I thought ahead, perfect Night to be at an Islanders game as the scariest thing possible… Mike Milbury.

That might win the award — if you weren’t drawn and quartered first.

Does he do Bruins road games, or just home? I wonder what kind of treatment he gets if (when) he returns to the Coliseum.

Does he do work for Fox Sports NE? All I knew is that he worked for NBC, and they’d never cover an Isles game.

by Mark D on Oct 31, 2009 7:17 PM EDT up reply actions

I think it’s NESN. The Bruins go to him and a couple others in between periods, while they’re refilling Jack Edwards’ oxygen.

Jack Edwards has to be one of the most annoying to listen to in all of sports

I can’t bear one second of listening to him. Makes Chinese water torture seem appealing.

by Chickendirt on Oct 31, 2009 7:26 PM EDT up reply actions

Used to like ol' Jack.....

…..until he inevitably caught ’Cusick’s Homeritis’ from Brickley (pathology: inflammation of Bruin’s injustices caused by the referees – paging Dr. House! Dr. House! No cure, unfortunately…..) now, he’s more or less a bargain-basement Marv Albert…..BTW, when exactly DID ‘delay-of-game’ become ‘puck over glass’? A most useless penalty…..

by ogam5 on Oct 31, 2009 8:01 PM EDT up reply actions

Way back, with soccer, I found him fine — it was nice to have an announcer with enthusiasm for the sport instead of “boss made me do soccer” approach. Then he just became … yeah, unbearable.

Dumb Poll

MSG has a poll, who is your favorite player to play for the Isles and Sabres in the last ten years. Of course they only say ten years because otherwise you’d have to Include Lafontaine, and I think Lafontaine would win that poll with 90%

by Mark D on Oct 31, 2009 7:54 PM EDT reply actions

No doubt. They could have used it as a spot to promote LaFontaine in the marathon, too.

Who were the candidates? Peca, Pyatt, Biron, Connolly … Roloson? Heh, Dawes?

I can’t complain. He’s not a great fighter and not a great defensive forward, but he busts his tail and does whatever’s asked. You need a guy or two like that, particularly when they’re only going to get 9-10 minutes a night.

I don't think it changes much expectation wise

I think come the stretch this team going to really struggle. Have too many guys who haven’t experienced that kind of hockey. Will be nice to play some meaningful games in February. March and possibly Arpil.

by Chickendirt on Oct 31, 2009 8:50 PM EDT up reply actions

I think this was a decent team last year that struggled with injuries and had no goaltending. If this team stays healthy, and if Biron and Rollie can do what we know they can do, I want to believe they can challenge for the Playoffs.

Trent Hunters still out, and there’s always the possibility that DiPietro returns and has his old form.

by Mark D on Oct 31, 2009 8:53 PM EDT up reply actions

I just mean that I wanted them to have some kind of stretch like this early, so that they don’t descend into despair from not even having strung a few wins together.
