Islanders 3rd jersey vote

[Editor's Note: I'm front-paging this FanPost from a new member here -- a naked plea for votes -- purely in the name of all that is right and holy for classic jersey goodness. Honk if you love the retro third jerseys. Frankly, I'm just glad all of the candidates are actual retro jerseys rather than some cartoon or diagonal monstrosity. In comments, your own jersey opinions or memories are always welcome. --Dominik]

We are pulling up the rear in this vote. Please let the NHL know. The uniform brings me back to when I was a youngster and the last real dynasty in sports was in place. Don't really have anything more to say, but I am required to post at least 75 words.

OK now I am at 67 words, so I am adding this sentence: I love the 3rd (throwback jersey).

[Editor: Exactly. Ideally you want a FanPost to be longer, but we'll make an exception for third-jersey electioneering.]

Submitted FanPosts do not necessarily reflect the views of this blog or SB Nation. If you're reading this statement, you pass the fine print legalese test. Four stars for you.

Well we should at least win a vote of whose 3rd Jersey looks better then their current Home/Away.

Also for those who want a history of the Isles Jerseys Click Here
unfortunately it might be missing a few 3rd jerseys in the Fishsticks/Lighthouse years.

Hell yes. Well, unless you account for the Buffa-slug. I just can’t get behind that one in any form, so the Sabres’ retro one may be an even bigger improvement.

Yea, the Buffa-Slug is awful, and nonsensical considering they are FROM Buffalo, but are NAMED the Sabres.

Even so, as cool as the retro Sabres jersey is, I always liked the late 90s black and red Buffalo head jersey. When I was coaching youth hockey, that was always the most popular team to pick.

Love the old Sabres throwbacks, but the Powder blue is just the best. The nice part is the Isles helmets match the unis, and the script “Islanders” on the helmet just finishes it off so well. Maybe it’s me, but it’s just so classic.

So much better than the fish sticks, haha. I just remember Palffy and Cairns during that jersey era :P

NYI 3rd jersey

I love the Islanders 3rd/ throwback jersey, and would like it even more if they made it their full time home jersey. I don’t like the current home and away style Reebok jerseys, but at least they have the correct logo. In my opinion, the Islanders should return to the 1998-2007 style jerseys with the throwback jersey as the alternate, or return to the jerseys that they wore in the glory days and thru the shortened 1995 season with the current throwback as the alternate. The Islanders have the best 3rd jersey in the NHL!

Welcome aboard

Thanks for joining. We’re starting to accumulate a healthy West Coast contingent around here.

It sounds like you’ll almost get your wish. By all accounts, this one will be the regular home next year, and if Bridgeport is any indication, there will be a corresponding white for the “road.”

I won’t be sad to see the current RBK go.

3rd jersey

I would prefer to see the Isles use them as their #1 jersey all the time, it would go alot better with the 4 cup stripes on their jerseys now.

Welcome

Thanks for joining.

With the 3rd jersey, I think you’re far from alone in that regard — and it really sounds like next year you’ll get your wish.

Islesfan- look at the team photos this season in their thirds, look at the pics all over the official page in their thirds, lok at the ice (the logo is in the thirds colors) I dont think there is any doubt that this is the last season for the present uniform.

Lets go Islanders...

On that note, the Sabres official site is also totally de-emphasizing the Slug.
