Yannick Weber for Radek Martinek?

There has been some discussion about trading Radek Martinek to Montreal to fill the void left by Andrei Markov's injury. I, for one, have been unsure what Montreal would give up for him. To me, he is worth a third round pick, but the Habs do not have one.
An answer may be found in the player the Habs called up to replace Markov: Yannick Weber. He is 21, has a lot of poise and ability on the powerplay. He needs some pointers on handling bigger forwards and who better than his fellow countryman and former Hab Mark Streit? He would be the ideal second unit powerplay quarterback and would bring youth and talent to our blueline. Of course, he would disappoint his one man Quebecois fan club (see above video), but I will live with that. What do you think?

Don’t know if the Habs would go for this idea, but, if they did, it seems like a no-brainer to me. We need youth and talent on our blueline and we need a 2nd unit PP QB. Weber gives us all three things and should have some pretty good chemistry with fellow Swiss and Hab Streit.

BTW, was on the Habs fansite. Only one fanpost goes into detail on the injury And what detail!!! Has a rather brutal picture of an exposed tendon with the skin opened around it and a scalpel under it.
In any event, I put forward the idea of the trade. The only one to respond was the poster. He wasn’t interested. He didn;t think any Islander defender other than Streit was worth anything. There was only one other poster on that thread and he did not address the trade idea.

NEWS FLASH!!!
The Habs have signed UFA and former Islander Marc Andre Bergeron. Now they have two puck movers—Bergeron and Weber—who have issues covering their zone. In Weber’s case, improving defensive coverage is a matter of maturity. In Bergeron’s case, it is a matter of impossibility!!!

Weber had 14 minutes TOI against the Canucks. He had 0 SOG and was a -3. He keeps this up and a Weber-Martinek trade will begin to look pretty good to Gainey.

Martinek
I think Martinek is a responsible Defensive defensmen but what good is he if he’s always injured???

That’s the question, innit? You’d like to think his injury curse will end some day, since it’s not always the same part getting injured. As ever, “maybe this year…”

Martinek has some two way potential actually. He is very good in his own end and can move the puck around quite well. He also can occasionally put the puck in the net as he did during the pre-season. The only players without any downside are the ones teams don’t usually trade anyway. Montreal is at a disadvantage in that any team that would trade a reliable defenseman would probably be looking for a third round pick which Montreal doesn’t have. The Isles would probably like to have a young NHL-ready defenseman that Streit could mentor in lieu of a pick, so they might be a more logical trading partner than some other teams.
