The Back of your Jersey?

Alright, I'm giving this a try. I'm curious, I mentioned the other day the effect the Devils are having on possible Islander fans. The discussion ended up becoming one about mass transit to the Colosseum, but I want to know whose on the back of your Islander Jersey?

The first few are pretty easy to explain. Classic Islanders means anyone that has either played for the Islanders (Kirk Muller, Brett Lindros, Ziggy Palffy, Tommy Salo) or was drafted by the Islanders (Mike Rupp, JP Dumont, Wade Redden) and never played for them. Never an Islander is simply someone that was never an Islander. So maybe you were a Pavel Bure fan, but only had Islander Jerseys. And there's the superstitious types who don't want to see the player traded right after buying the Jersey, or don't want to have a Farve #4 Jets jersey in 2009.

Always love this topic

Bossy and Turgeon for me, plus a whole lot of blanks that never got filled before said blank was traded.

I don't have a jersey or even a hat right now

Getting Islanders stuff is tough in the city of Boston.

Occasionally I travel to Jersey to see the in laws and they don’t really sell Islanders stuff there.

I’ll get around to acquiring one at some point. Gotta fill the Boston Garden with Blue and Orange when the Isles come to down. Let em all know who’s boss.

Don’t have an Islander sweater (I think that is what they are actually called). Have a nice jacket, hat, teeshirt, flannel shirt, and sweatshirt…but not a game sweater.

If I did, it would be Potvin on the back. He was the best of the old Islanders…the one who made it all possible and the first Islander I ever saw score a goal. Until there is a current Islander whose play on the ice is comparable to the one and only Denis, he would have to be the one.

Kelly Hrudey

though technically it doesn’t have the name, just #30.

Nice, I’ve always wondered what might have happened if he had stayed with the Isles and Healy stayed out west.

Not only that, I wonder what the Kings would’ve done about getting a goaltender.

Michael Peca

I got sucked in by an 8th seed, what can I say. I haven’t worn it in a few years, but I’m planning on busting it out when the Isles come to DC in November. Eventually I might have to invest in a new one, although I only ever wear them to live games.

I need to get a new Isles hat. The one I have now screams of the late 90’s (too many bright colors). I went to a store last time I was on LI, but I didn’t like any of the designs they had. I saw a guy wearing the coolest Isles hat I’ve ever seen, but he said he’d had it for a long time and had no idea where he got it. I can’t find it anywhere online, either.

Oh, I was this close to putting Peca on my home Isles one from back then.

I usually end up getting blanks first, then customizing them after they feel right … which combines with laziness to put it off until the moment’s passed. Have the new third, not sure who (or if) I’ll put on it.

At least Peca had a pretty good run with us, and we traded two prospects for him that actually bombed.

If I had an Isles Jersey today I’d probably go for Tavares of Okposo. Those two should be around for a while. I’m usually a Goalie fan, but for obvious reasons I don’t want to go for DiPietro, Roloson or Biron.

Hats

Know what you mean. My bright blue and orange one from 1992 survives to this day as a painting/lawn-mowing hat.

At the home opener, I picked one up that looks like a bit this, except the base color is almost a deep navy/brown shade, and the reverse stitches and Islanders logo is a sort of rust orange (and it’s a one-size/stretch fit):

I don’t see the one I got online, though.

Count me among the Peca folks

I used to have a Billy Smith jersey, but, well, that’s another sad, sad story

I’ve been dreaming of a Tonelli that fits. My Turgeon doesn’t really fit, either, so it just hangs there in a sad state of what could have been.

i have my name and number because the islanders in the past would trade away anyone worth having a jersey of i’m happy seeing that change

LOL. By far the best reason I’ve ever heard for going the personal route. What can I say? I’ve got a bunch of blanks since Turgeon, because everybody seemed to go away. I was close with Palffy, but I had religious opposition to the fisherman crest.

BTW

I felt I had to specify Denis because he, Trots, Clarkie, and Smitty, to name a couple, were all core guys who were with the Isles BEFORE Bossy was drafted.
