Penguins blogs: Pensburgh | The Pensblog

I lied in the game preview earlier. Turns out Philippe Boucher will dress. But we get their backup-backup goalie! Yay! (Yay?) John Curry coming in after the 3-0 lead helped the Pens turn things around last meeting. If I'm catching this one live, I may bounce between here and the Pensburgh game thread -- to needle FrankD if things go well, and run away and hide if they go poorly.

Opening montage

Featuring Andy Hilbert and his “resurgence”: 7 points in his last 10 games. 7 goals this season (career high is 12).

Sillinger said it was great to play with Hilbert and Hunter when he returned, because they do all the little things and are in the right spots.

Makes sense Hilbert is comfortable under old coach Scott Gordon.

Oy, bad penalty

Meyer IV for continuing to pin his man against the boards. His man didn’t even try to skate, just put his arms up in “hey ref, look” surrender.

Sorry, obscure, I seem to remeber that Islanders had the lonest game in history with ot periods and it was some guy, ugh, cannot remeber his name, who scored the goal that ended it but it stood as the longest game for a long time.

though the fourth one, that high deflection, wasn’t really his fault

Ugh, 5-1

Man, when a few things break down for the Isles this year, everything starts to fall apart. Their margin for error in a game is so thin.

Jackman trying to stir it up

Jackman’s been trying to get someone, anyone to go with him, and it’s not happening.

Now he got a roughing penalty for punching on Minard. I think Jackman thought Minard stuck his elbow up as Jackman went to hit him, but it was innocent.

And Dupuis gets his hat trick, 9-2

The crowd is chanting, “We want 10!” Which is the only sad thing about this night for the Penguins: the crowd has been dead almost all night. Before the game blew up, the announcers were stunned by how quiet it was. It was like the Penguins were throwing a party, but the fans came to watch a ballet.
