From the NHL's 1987 book, "Hockey: Twenty Years," celebrating 20 years since expansion. This page had an article describing the changing technology in the game, with Al Arbour as illustration:
"The application of video today includes editing or 'breaking down' game footage so that separate tapes can be created to show ... the systems a team uses to break out of its own end, kill penalties, or work a powerplay."
Wait, what is this "breaking down" you speak of? Heh, how times change.
